Anglers registered in the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship  before midnight February 8th will be in the running for 26 Early Bird Draws are you registered? 30 Teams are currently registered to be in the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship Early Bird Draw. Depending on how soon teams entered, they could have up to 26 chances for their numbers to come up. Friday Feb. 8th at midnight is the closing of entries. From now until then, you'll be receiving 2 entries into the 26 draws that take place at the rules meeting, Friday Feb. 22nd at the Sutton Arena.

Big Fish Day Looks Great!

Canadian Ice Fishing Championship President Rosa Sharpe visited Bonnie Boats, Jackson’s Point today for personal Lake Simcoe ice condition updates. Starting early this morning Rosa scouted various locations for the Deep Water Big Fish Day  travelling along the frozen lake from east to west for over an hour.

‘I wanted to be on the ice myself to set up the zones for Big Fish Day and Perch Day,’ shared Rosa, who is also LuresAndTours CEO adding ‘Boy the cold air felt great!’Bonnie_Boats_Bombardier

Rosa reported the ice was good and is continuing to thicken. There were a good number of huts out on the ice with people happy to be there ice fishing.

Jackson’s Point, renowned for being the Jumbo Perch Capital of North America.will be the launch point for the 19th Ice Fishing Championship. Anglers will be able to enjoy two days of live release hardwater fishing to win thousands in cash and prizes: Day One being Deep Water Big Fish Day and Day Two:  Shallower Fishing Ground Perch.Day.

Latest Ice Fishing Report from Lake Simcoe brings great news for the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship! Ice is getting stronger on most of the lake including at Bonnie Boats – Launch Point for the 19th Canadian Ice Fishing Championship.

‘We have eight huts out today, on Six inches of ice.’ Bonnie Boats shared adding,’ Our huts are over are over 60 feet of water,and they are fishing for White Fish and  Lake Trout here.’

Caution is still advised for the main part of Lake Simcoe. Ice Fishing Seminar Presenter Wegman - Rich Ice Fishing Background

Ice Fishing Seminar Presenter, Wil Wegman, won the 2006 Perch Trap Attack on Simcoe, was a member of Team Canada at the World Ice Fishing Championships in 1991, and has had several top ten finishes in the Canadian Ice Fishing Championships. He won the Perchin for MS event with his son Izaak in 2011 and placed 3rd in 2012 when 200 teams competed. Wil has taught ice fishing courses at Seneca College for 20 years, and presents his popular ice fishing seminars from Sudbury to Toronto and from St Catharines to Ottawa. Ice fishing articles by Wil Wegman have been published in Ontario Out of Doors, Outdoor Canada, Real Fishing, In Fisherman, Lake Simcoe Living, Just Fishing,and Lures and Tours.

Bednar competes in the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship for the 17th time this coming year, so he really knows the ropes. Canadian Ice Fishing Championship veteran Roy Bednar, may have the oldest angler as his team-mate - Joe Montgomery. Joe just celebrated his 90th birthday!

Roy first learned of the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship years ago through the former Ontario Fisherman's Magazine, and has been enjoying the
competition ever since. Roy, Angler A in Team One, is pleased with the direction of the CIFC since Lures & Tours took the reins in 2011.
'Since Lures and Tours has taken over this competition, I and others have seen HUGE Improvements and Professionalism,' shared Roy adding, 'I`ll be at various tackle shops January and early February promoting the CIFC"

Lake Simcoe Ice Fishing Hut Operators polled today cheerfully reported ice formation progress progress, as they all keep an eye on the weather, Thursday’s Lake Simcoe Ice Report from Aurora: MNR District Office advised Lake Simcoe, as a whole is not safe. Port Bolster, one of the first places to freeze reports 6 – 8 inches, and our Beaverton Source states, providing the cold weather holds he should be on the ice Monday or Tuesday. St. Catharines Historic Fishing Conservation Club Supports 19 th Canadian Ice Fishing Championship

St. Catharines Game and Fish Association is pleased to support the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship with a prominent banner link. The St. Catharines Game and Fish Association, has a long history of supporting conservation efforts, starting in 1930 as The St. Catharines and Lincoln County Game and Fish Protective Association. Much has changed since the club’s inception, yet our ranks hold a core membership that provides a strong history of initiatives in conservation, environment protection, legislation consultation, teaching and social activities.
